About the Shelter
Genesis Women's Shelter is a not-for-profit haven for women in North Texas trying to escape abusive situations. Its shelter, counselling programs, outreach facility, and thrift store all work to give women a place to escape to, people to talk to, and a way to support women in need.
The education page
This page includes an interactive infographic to show people how abuse works. On this page, you can go through and look at stats for location, age, lifestyle, ethnicity, and more. I worked alongside the developers to make this page as informative, engaging and unique as possible.
This is THE most important feature on the website. Imagine being a woman in need. In the age of information, your partner can see your online habits. This button is essential. It not only lets women immediately close the tab, but also erases search history & opens the weather. It is one of the many ways Genesis looks out for women seeking their services.
The honeycomb pattern on the site is an iteration of their logo.
It is meant to show that we are all connected. And like a bee colony, everyone is supported by a community.
In their housing facility, women can finally feel a sense of security they don't have at home. Whether it is the 16ft tall shelf, 24/hour security personnel, or the keypad locks on each room, the minute they walk through the door, they feel a sense of relief.
Genesis is more than a shelter. It is promise to women that there is nothing to be ashamed of, there is nothing they did wrong, and there IS a way out. For friends and families, it is a way for them to educate themselves on how to help and remind them that they too have not done anything wrong.
Abuse does not discriminate. And neither does Genesis.
